International Symposium on Vet Rehab & Physical Therapy Cambridge 2022

STATEMENT FROM THE IAVRPT SYMPOSIUM ORGANISING COMMITTEE

When we cancelled IAVRPT 2020, we were all anticipating to welcome delegates from across the globe at this year’s conference in Cambridge. We have been closely monitoring the COVID-19 pandemic and, after consultation with our members and interested parties and at a time of continued uncertainty, we made the difficult decision that the IAVRPT 2021 symposium should also be postponed until Summer 2022 when it will be hosted by the University of Cambridge. Vaccines are now being rolled out across the world and we hope that by 2022, the global travel restrictions will have been lifted and we can host our international symposium in the way we had initially planned. This is disappointing for many of our members but continuing the preparations for IAVRPT 2021 under the current circumstances would have exposed the association to an unacceptably high financial risk.

Thank you for your patience, support and understanding during this extraordinary and challenging situation. We wish you well in the forthcoming year and look forward to welcoming you in Cambridge next year.

International Symposium on Vet Rehab & Physical Therapy Cambridge 2022

STATEMENT FROM THE IAVRPT 2020 ORGANISING COMMITTEE

We have been closely monitoring the escalating COVID-19 crisis and, at a time of uncertainty and worry, we regret to inform you that the IAVRPT 2020 symposium has been postponed until August 2021 when it will be hosted by the University of Cambridge. The growing public health crisis and the impact of the global travel restrictions will make it very difficult for us to hold this international symposium and we need to put the safety of our attendees first. These are unprecedented times and we hope that by taking this early decision before registration has opened we can secure the best financial outcome for our intended attendees and our associations.

Thank you for your patience, support and understanding during this extraordinary and challenging situation. We wish you well in the forthcoming months and look forward to welcoming you in Cambridge next year.

International Symposium on Vet Rehab & Physical Therapy Cambridge 2022

THE CORPUS CLOCK IS TICKING πŸΎπŸ΄πŸ•°πŸΆπŸΎ

We may have been quiet but we are planning some exciting things to give you a fantastic symposium in 2020. We are working hard to announce the programme as soon as we can as we realise you are all eagerly awaiting this.

We would like to introduce you to this fantastic piece of engineering that you will find during your visit to Cambridge πŸ˜„.

The Corpus Clock is one of the most distinctive public monuments in Cambridge and has been admired by residents and tourists since its inauguration in 2008. It is an unusual device for the measurement of time being both hypnotically beautiful and deeply disturbing. It was invented, designed and given to Corpus Christi College by Dr John C Taylor OBE FREng (m1959), who worked with local engineering company Huxley Bertram in constructing the Clock.

The face of the clock is plated in pure gold and the radiating ripples allude to the Big Bang, the central impact that formed the universe and could be considered as the beginning of time. Sitting atop the clock is an extraordinary monster: the β€˜Chronophage’, meaning β€˜time-eater’, for that is what the Chronophage does, devouring each minute as it passes with a snap of its jaws. It evolves out of a grasshopper, a term used by eighteenth-century horologist John Harrison to describe his invention of an escapement which was a strictly functional innovation.

The Corpus Clock has no hands or digital numbers and thus at first it appears difficult to tell the time. However, look carefully and there are 3 rings of LEDs, which reading from the innermost ring show hours, minutes and seconds. When an hour is struck there is no chiming of bells, but rather the shaking of chains and a hammer hitting a wooden coffin. Time passes and we all die, a fact further represented by the Latin inscription underneath the clock, mundus transit et concupiscentia eius, meaning 'the world and its desires pass away'.

Come and see this beautiful clock in the heart of Cambridge in August 2020 πŸΎπŸ΄πŸ•°πŸΆπŸΎ #iavrpt2020 #Cambridge #cambridge2020 #symposium #IAVRPT #ACPAT #rehabilitation #physicaltherapy #smallanimal #equine #veterinary #multiprofessional #letslearntogether #travel
